After church yesterday, my son David and I went to an authentic Szechuan restaurant. This type of Chinese food is known for it’s firey, and in some cases, “numbing” food.
We ordered a chicken dish made with dozens of chili peppers. It was spicy and utterly fantastic although my son drank about a gallon of water to quench the fire inside his mouth.
On the way home, David made the fatal mistake of touching his eye which now was burning as well as the inside of his mouth. Of course, I thought that was very funny because it didn’t happen to me. Yes, I’m a nice dad, for sure.
At this point, you might be thinking I’m crazy for loving food that causes an inferno inside your mouth. But I’m not the only person, because the restaurant was packed with Chinese families enjoying their Sunday lunch as well. Next store people were enjoying Mexican food, and I think that is crazy.
You, my friend, are a unique individual, and although I don’t recommend you “let your freak flag fly” when it comes to business, I do suggest that your uniqueness should come through in your marketing and sales presentations.
Don’t make your website look like everyone else in your category. Don’t create generic marketing. When speaking or doing webinars, let your personality shine through.
Your uniqueness is key to making sure you never fall into the commodity business trap.
