It was a tough weekend for your fearless leader.
First, I blew chunks on the tennis court. Granted, I don’t play regularly, but I was ridiculously bad. So frustrating.
Then, last night, I made a big Italian dinner for my family and some guests. Usually, I rock it, especially with my meatballs. It is a documented fact that I make the best meatballs on the planet. In fact, when we were in Italy, I tried many meatballs and let it be known that mine were better.
But not last night.
I don’t know what the heck I did, but my famous meatballs were not tasty. They were bland and way too soft. I didn’t put in the correct proportion of ingredients or, worse, missed some ingredients. (Thank God, Gordan Ramsey wasn’t eating over.)
To make a successful meatball, you need the right ingredients, in the correct proportion, combined in the proper order. It’s the same with one-to-many selling. To get the best results you need to structure your opening, middle, and close with the precision of chef making you an elegant dinner and you can’t leave anything out or cut anything out.
One of the most egregious errors I see people make when speaking to sell is spending so much time on the content portion of their presentation that they run short on time and rush their close or, worse, cut out parts of their close.
If you need to cut short a part of your presentation, it must be the content portion! But it’s best to follow your proven “recipe” step-by-step. If you don’t, you’ll end up with mushy and bland sales results.
Make it a fantastic week.
