Over the weekend I watched two documentaries on Netflix.
The first was titled, “Enlighten Us” which was the story of James Arthur Ray, the new age self-help guru and how three people died in a sweat log at one of his retreats.
The second documentary was titled, “Holy Hell” which was about a California based cult headed by one very strange dude.
Although scary and disturbing, as someone who teaches persuasion and influence strategies, l, I was fascinated to see how the human mind can be controlled and manipulated. Followers of both of these gurus did anything they were told to do.
Watching this reinforced one of the cornerstones of my teaching:
The difference between persuasion and manipulation is intent.
If someone’s intent is to make a sale just for their own benefit with no regard to their prospect’s well-being, that is manipulation.
If someone’s intent in making the sale is to help the prospect get the outcome they desire and, as a result, enrich himself, then that is persuasion.
I remember doing a private consultation with a woman who wanted to hire me to put together a webinar launch for her.
After listening her, I determined that she had little or no chance of success so I politely told her I didn’t think she was a good fit. She replied, “No, you don’t understand, I have the money to pay you.” I explained it wasn’t about the money but rather that I didn’t feel I was the person to help her.
She became belligerent and insisted that I take the money and take her on as a private client. When I told her “no” again. She became irate.
That’s the power of this Psychic Sales stuff you’re learning from me. Use your powers for good.
Kick butt, make mucho DEEnero!
