Hot pot, why oh why?

I love authentic Chinese food. I’ve tried dishes that most Americans wouldn’t even try. Sautéed pig kidneys, anyone? I tell you that because I didn’t want you to think I was wimpy.

On Saturday in NYC, Kalia and I ate at an authentic hot pot restaurant. If you’ve never have had the displeasure of dining at that type of restaurant, let me give you the lowdown. In the center of the table are boiling containers of different flavored broths. First, you order different types of meats and veggies. These are brought to the table raw. Then, you cook your food by boiling it.

Neither Kalia nor I liked it. I really didn’t enjoy it, nor did I “get it.” Why would I go to a restaurant where I had to cook my food by boiling it?

The restaurant was packed, and our dining companions enjoyed their meal—different strokes for different folks.

It’s no different than when you do a one-to-many presentation. There will be people who like it, like you, and get value from what you talk about. But, unfortunately, there will also be people who don’t like your presentation, don’t like you, and think your talk was a waste of their time.

The only thing that should matter to you is results.

When I worked at GKIC, I did a presentation where I sold half a million dollars worth of products. Home run, right? Not according to the leader of the company. That person told me that survey results (the dumbest metric you can look at when selling from the stage) showed that some audience members didn’t like my presentation and asked that I not sell so hard.

Say what?

You need to create and deliver presentations infused with your personality and delivered with passion. Some folks will respond; some won’t.

That’s not to say that you shouldn’t tweak and try to improve your results. Small changes can lead to higher conversions, meaning you make more DEEnero in the same amount of time.

In the upcoming Inner Sanctum VIP-only masterclass, I dissect a presentation submitted by a VIP which is a financial advisor. Then, I go through it slide-by-slide and describe the changes I would make to improve results and the psychology behind these changes.

If you sell one-to-many, either in person or online, and want to transform your results, you can become an Inner Sanctum VIP here:
