Gangsta success

I love mob movies. I’m watching a series on Netflix titled “Bad Blood,” which is loosely based on the mafia in Canada. (Who knew there was a strong mafia presence in Canada.)

Even though the bosses in all of these movies commit despicable acts, there are on some level appealing. Think of Vito or Michael Corleone or Tony Soprano. You root for these men to succeed.

I think what makes these characters compelling is their unwavering focus on their goals. They have a clear vision of what they want their outcome to be and take action to achieve it. Regardless of what obstacles are put in their path, they make adjustments, remain focused, and with steely determination keep forging ahead to get what they want.

True, their methods are immoral, and I would never advocate the “do whatever it takes even if it hurts others” approach to achieving your goals. However, there is something to be learned by following their success formula:

  1. Know what your outcome is.
  2. Know why you want to achieve it.
  3. Create a plan.
  4. Take action on the plan.
  5. When things go wrong, stay calm, focused, and modify your plan and keep moving forward.
  6. Never give up.

That’s a solid plan for getting what you want.
