Deal With The Devil?

Kalia and I watched Sinners this weekend.

Loosely based on the legend of Robert Johnson, the blues guitarist who supposedly sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads in exchange for supernatural skill.

But here’s what most people get wrong about that story:

The myth wasn’t about technical mastery.

It was about metamorphosis.

Johnson disappeared for a while. When he came back, he didn’t just play like someone new.

He was someone new.

His posture.

His presence.

The intensity with which he inhabited the room.

That made the crowd believe he’d made a deal with the devil.

Now here’s where it gets uncomfortably relevant:

Most professionals—especially those who are already great at what they do—keep trying to impress with knowledge, credentials, and experience.

But the clients they want aren’t waiting for a better technician.

They’re waiting for someone who shows up with the energy of inevitability.

Remember this:

“People don’t buy because of what you do. They buy because of who they believe you are.”

Read that again.

If you’re still showing up as a version of yourself that says, “I hope this client sees how good I am…” you’ve already lost the frame.

You don’t need to play faster.

You need to walk back into the room differently.

That shift—from credible expert to commanding presence—is one of the biggest revenue unlocks most people never make.
