Here are a few questions I always get from professionals who want to get more appointments with high-quality prospects through speaking on stage or webinars – without becoming a cheesy pitchman or free educator.
Q: What’s the biggest mistake most professionals make in their presentations?
A: They try to teach too much.
When you overload your audience with information, they feel satisfied but not compelled to take action. A strong presentation isn’t training. It’s a conversion tool. Focus on clarity, contrast, and belief-building… not data dumps.
Q: Should I open with my story?
A: NO!
While a well-structured origin story is persuasive, you do NOT want to open your presentation with it.
Your prospects don’t care about your journey until you talk about them and they understand that you GET THEM and WHAT THEY’RE going through.
Q: I’m not a naturally charismatic speaker. Can I still convert?
A: Absolutely.
Charisma helps, but structure and a passionate delivery are what sell. When you follow the right persuasive arc, problem, perspective shift, possibility, proof, and passionately sincere delivery, your authority increases, even if you’re not the most dynamic person in the room.
Q: Should I end my presentations with Q&A?
A: Not unless you want to kill momentum.
You want to end in person with a clear, confident call to action. If people have questions, tell them you’ll answer them in the back of the room.
On webinars, you don’t start Q&A until your final call to action, but understand that Q&A is an extension of the presentation; it is NOT something you tack on at the end. In the process of answering questions, you have calls to action and reiterate your offer.
Q: What if I feel awkward speaking?
A: Ha! Everyone does at first. That’s the game you must play to win.
Remember, it doesn’t feel like selling when you do it right. It feels like leadership. You’re helping the right people make the right decision—and filtering out the rest without apology.
