Yesterday, I received the following question from a young marketer:
“I’m a 22-year-old beginner (broke), marketer. Would you advise me to get hyper-focused on learning how to write copy? If so, how would you go about it?”
I would not get hyper-focuses on learning how to write copy. I would get hyper-focused on learning how to sell. NOTHING is more important than selling. SELLING will also solve that young chaps money problems, as well.
Now maybe he can’t afford an expensive course on sales, but there are plenty of excellent books on the subject. He could start with the classics texts written by legendary Zig Ziglar or start with something more modern book like the late Chet Holmes “Ultimate Sales Machine.”
The key is to spend some time learning, but most of the time, implementing what he’s learned. Find something to sell, get in the trenches, and sell it. MASSIVE ACTION is what’s needed here.
Once our young buck knows how to close the sale, the world is his oyster.
Marketing is cool. I love marketing. But, every time I get better at sales, I give myself a pay raise with no additional expense.
Go forth and sell!
Kick butt, make mucho DEEnero!
