Every year, for as long as I can remember, I’ve watched two movies over the holiday season, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” and “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.”

My two biological kids watched these movies with me for years as well, and I thought they enjoyed it.

Well, I brought up the subject the other day over dinner with all my kids and Karen, and they all rejected the idea that we watch the movies together.

Yes, they’re all Scrooges, but their lack of enthusiasm will not dissuade me from sitting in our movie room, in the dark, all by myself, watching these films. I will not be denied!

The truth is, if you want people to watch your presentations or be interested in listening to your pitch, you need to make sure you’re talking about what they want and not what they need to hear.

For example, I people often complain about how difficult it is to get people to sign-up and show up for webinars. Yes, it’s hard to do if the topic of the webinar isn’t something people are interested in. Your prospects might need to hear what you have to tell them, but if they don’t want the information you’re providing, you’re dead in the H2O.

Remember: Sell people what they want and give them what they need.
