I love watching documentaries and will almost watch anything about someone who is the very best at what they do.
Yesterday I rewatched “Pumping Iron” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and put down my glass of wine, got out my journal and wrote down this quote from the movie:
“If you want to be a champion, you cannot have any kind of an outside negative force coming in and affect you. Let’s say before a contest, if l get emotionally involved with a girl…that can have a negative effect on my mind…and therefore destroy my workout. So l have to cut my emotions off…and be kind of cold, in a way, before a competition. That’s what you do with the rest of the things. lf somebody steals my car outside of my door right now…l don’t care. l can’t be bothered with that. l would only have my secretary call the insurance agency and laugh about it. Because l cannot be bothered with it. l trained myself for that.”
How friggin’ true is that?
How many people actually have a mission or a goal so powerful that they can do that or are willing to do that?
On the day when I have to do I do a big presentation, I leave my phone in my hotel room. I can’t afford to get a negative text or hear or get a call from home about a problem. Hey, there’s nothing I can do about it at that moment, anyway. I need to have razor sharp focus.
Hearing Arnold’s sage advice reminded me that I need to get even better at it and work on it.
How about you, kemosabe?

P.S. One of the keys to self-discipline starts with a powerful morning routine. I recently bought this online video course about the subject and thought it was worth it. (It’s really inexpensive, by the way.) If you like Tony Robbins stuff, you’ll like this because the guy who put together the course teaches a lot of Tony’s principles. To check it out, click here!
