Why this type of selling is for chumps

 Tomorrow, I’m heading on a jet plane to Austin to speak at a seminar.

A few weeks ago when I spoke at an event, I closed 64% of the room on a 2K product. I expect similar or better results this week. But I’ll tell you what I do NOT do in ANY sales situation be it on stage or one-to-one:

Use traditional hardcore closing techniques.

The sales gurus fanboys applaud when they watch their hero’s hardcore close someone in a youtube video. They are enthralled when their guru regals them with stories about how they would not take no for an answer.

That kind old stuff is for chumps.

I recently spoke at an event where a semi-famous sales trainer who teaches the high-pressure type of selling, BOMBED before the audience. His techniques didn’t work in the real world or at least not in this particular situation.

I crushed it with the same audience and a similar product – without using any of that blatantly manipulative sales crapola. At its core, selling in any form comes to do this:

First, discover what your prospect really wants (not necessarily what they need.)

Second, discover their motivations for wanting it. Third, prescribe the solution that shows them how they can get what they want and satisfy their motivations.

Fourth, make your prospect a genuinely irresistible offer.
