After the wife and I got back from our incredible Italy vacation, we decided to go all in on all things Italian – including making our own limoncello.
For the uninitiated limoncello is an lemony after dinner liqueur known as a “digestivo.” It is sweet, cold and refreshing.
So off to Whole Foods we went to buy 25 organic lemons. Then we stopped off at Target to pick up a large glass jar to house our concoction. Our journey concluded at the liquor store to buy the necessary vodka.
Back at the old homestead, we zested the 25 lemons. Have you ever zested 25 lemons? It ain’t fun, Bubba.
Once the ingredients were mixed, the jar was put in the basement for 45 days. Then we had to make a simple syrup, add it to the mix and then let it sit for another 45 days. Just yesterday, we filtered the liquid through cheesecloth, rebottled it and put it in the freezer.
Today, 90 days and hours of time later, we will give it a try. It better be damn good.
Now here’s the point of my little alcohol tale:
I could have spend 20 minutes going to the liquor store and have bought a bottle of limoncello, imported from Italy, for about $26.00. And I’m guessing it would be at least as good as our homemade one.
Now you might argue that I would have missed out on the “fun” experience of making this with my wife and you might be correct BUT in business, we can’t afford this kind of indulgence.
Are you spending time doing things in your business that you shouldn’t be doing like working on your own website, trying to figure out technology or anything that is outside your area of genius?
Hey, if you’re new to business and on a tight budget, I get that you need to do a lot of stuff yourself. I’ve been there BUT you need to offload as much stuff as possible, as quickly as you can, so you can focus on the work that only you can do.
With so many freelance sites online including Fiverr, Upwork and others, there is NO REASON that you should be doing work that does not fall into the category of your greatest gifts and talents.
You want to be more productive, get more important stuff done in less time and see a sales increase? Start delegating, baby.
Kick butt, make mucho DEEnero!
