One of my mentors once said that having complicated marketing campaigns is essential because your competitors wouldn’t be able to figure out what you were doing and therefore wouldn’t be able to knock you off.
Another famous guru teaches you how to create multi-step complex funnels and claims that once you have your complicated funnel in place, the Brinks truck will be backing up to your house.
Sales trainers are famous for teaching 101 closes and things of that nature, often making their students memorize the closes word for word.
I could go on, but the common thread is the lie that more and more complicated is the key to your success. Of course, in every example listed about, the person making the claim is selling complicated services or software. Coincidence? Methinks not.
I have found the opposite to be true, simple works best, primarily if you sell professional services. The problemo with “complicated,” is it takes a long time to put into place, it can easily “break,” and it “complicated” will put unnecessary barriers between you and making the sale.
Our job is to attract qualified leads and close the sale. The question we need to ask is what is the most efficient and effective way to do that? After you answer that question, put the least complicated system in place to make it happen.
