Ever notice how some speakers own the room the moment they start talking?
It’s not just their content. It’s not their slides. And it’s definitely not because they’re the “best” expert in their field.
It’s because they understand the secret of compliance.
What’s compliance? It’s getting your audience to follow your lead—without force, awkwardness, or “rah-rah” nonsense.
Master presenters—whether in-person or on webinars—don’t ask for attention. They command it. Here’s how:
- Get your audience involved early. On webinars, have them type something in the chat. In person, get a quick show of hands. The sooner they engage, the more they stay locked in.
- Use “catchphrase” compliance. Ever heard Tony Robbins say, “Say YES!” or Derren Brown use incomplete sentences to get responses? Simple, effective, and keeps people hooked.
- Guide their attention. “Write this down.” “Think about a time when…” “Picture this…” These phrases snap people out of distraction and pull them deeper into your message.
- Give a clear next step. If you want them to book a call, tell them exactly how. If you want them to say yes, make it easy. Don’t assume they’ll “get it” on their own.
The point? You have to lead. If you just “hope” people will follow along, they won’t.
When you use compliance techniques correctly, your audience naturally follows your lead—and they’re far more likely to say YES to working with you.
So before your next presentation, ask yourself: Am I in control of this audience… or am I just hoping for the best?
The best presenters lead their audience to the sale.
Now, it’s your turn.
