I’m re-reading Derren Brown’s amazing book “Notes From A Fellow Traveller.”
Derren is a superstar mentalist and one of the all-time greats, and he wrote a book about stagecraft for other performers.
Here is a passage from his book. (Substitute the word “magician” for whatever your profession is.)
“To ditch reality and to enter ‘magician’ mode, which, being neither specific nor human, has no more authenticity to it than the role of waiter or shop assistant. Your job is to be a version of yourself, well defined, distinct, authentic; you have no business being generic.”
Simply brilliant.
Kick butt, make mucho DEEnero!
