Sexy stuff inside

I’m a break teaching the sales and marketing bootcamp for the fine folks at GKIC and I was thinking about sexy and not-so-sexy stuff.

Let me ‘splain…

One of the ten marketing commandments I taught today was, “Results Rule. Period.” It doesn’t matter what you, your wife, your employees, your friends or goldfish like. All that matters is what works.

I once worked with a client who was very concerned about image marketing. We shot a beautiful video for her landing page. It was a work of art. I wanted to test that against a simple landing page with a headline, some bullet points and an opt-in box.

The “ugly” page beat the “sexy” page but a country mile. It didn’t matter to me which page did better. I only cared about results.

But guess which page my client decided to use. Yep, the pretty page even though results clearly showed the other page was the winner.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t make your stuff look good. I am saying that make decisions based on numbers, not what you like better.
