It's 6:49 and I'm sitting in a hotel room in Buckhead, GA getting ready for the second day of a mastermind meeting. This is a mastermind that I belong to – not the mastermind group I run. Yes, I practice what I preach.
In this group are some of the most successful business people in the country including a guy who is a franchisor with over 380, and growing quickly, chiropractic franchises, a multi, multi millionaire venture capitalist, the top cosmetic dentist in the country, one of the top financial advisors in the country, a guy who owns a bank, and on and on.
These are some seriously heavy-hitters and when they talk, you listen. What I think most people would find interesting is what these super-successful people talk about.
By the way, when I say super-successful, I mean it in every sense of the word. Yes, they all have a boatload of money but also they all LOVE what they are doing. They all are happy. They all are extremely family oriented. They all contribute heavily to charity. They all have a strong faith in God. (There are some pretty good lessons right there, eh?)
So what did every single one of these winners talk about during yesterday's meetings?
First, when they got up to speak to the group and before they asked for input from the group about how to improve their businesses, they all talked about their families. Their wives, their kids, their parents, etc. It was evident that spending time with their families – was a super-high priority.
Second, they all talked about their values and goals and the importance they placed on this in their lives. We've all heard about the importance of defining our values and goals but did you ever wonder if that really worked or if really successful people actually did this kind of stuff? No need to wonder. The answer is "yes." When is the last time YOU wrote down and defined your values and goals?
Third, they all talked about their mission which in every single case was about helping other people and in some cases, changing the world. What is your mission? Have you written it down? Is it really yours or what someone else thinks it should be or what you think sounds good? What is it for real?
Yes super-successful people strive to make boatloads of cash, and believe me their is no shortage of financial wealth in this mastermind group but their money is made by being servant leaders.
These folks really care about helping people and run their lives and their businesses based on their strongly held values. How are you doing tying in your personal values to your day to day business activities?
Fourth, every one of these guys talked about and recommended BOOKS that they read. They all are voracious readers. Leaders are readers. It's that simple. Are reading a book a week? If not, get on a reading plan. 30 minutes a day should get it done – even if you are a slow reader.
Fifth, every one of these guys are super confident, have big egos and are humble and unassuming. How does that all gel you ask? Their confidence and ego is internal – meaning they KNOW they are great at what they do and can get the job done but they are not braggadocios or arrogant and treat everyone with respect.
I could keep going but I need to get into the shower and get ready for our meeting. We start promptly at 8:00 and the other thing these guys are is punctual.
Have an outstanding weekend.
Kick butt, make mucho DEE-nero!
