Man, Was I Wrong

Before this trip to Thailand, I would have sworn I didn’t like Thai food.

Why?

Because the only Thai food I’d ever tried was at restaurants back in the States. You know the ones—where the pad Thai is drenched in a cloyingly sweet sauce, and everything is toned down to cater to American palates.

I’d concluded, “Thai food’s not for me.”

Fast forward to our trip, and let me tell you—authentic Thai food is a revelation. The flavors are bright, balanced, and bold. Every dish we’ve tried has been layered with complexity that’s nothing like the overly simplified versions I’d encountered before.

What changed my opinion? Authenticity.

It’s not just the ingredients or the recipes; it’s the experience. From the street food vendors to the small, family-run restaurants, everything feels genuine. No pretense. No trying to be something it’s not. Just real, unfiltered Thai food prepared with care and pride.

That got me thinking about selling.

A lot of people think they “don’t like selling.” But more often than not, it’s because their only experience with it is the inauthentic, pushy, hard-sell tactics they’ve seen or been subjected to.

Real selling—the kind that works and builds long-term relationships—isn’t about tricks or high-pressure techniques. It’s about authenticity.

It’s about being yourself, understanding what your prospect genuinely needs, and guiding them toward a solution that will truly help them.

Authenticity builds trust. Trust closes sales.

So, if you’ve been telling yourself you’re not “good at selling” or don’t enjoy it, maybe it’s time to look at what you’re serving up. Are you being your authentic self in consultations? Are you really listening to your prospects, or are you serving them the “pad Thai” version of your pitch?

Take a step back, keep it real, and see what happens.

And who knows? Like me with authentic Thai food, you might just find you like selling after all.
