I’m going to go on one of my famous rants. Stick with me because there is a minor point business point inside the major life point I’m going to make.
Have you noticed how more and more idiots are all over the road when they’re driving because they’re looking at their damn cell phones? They swerve left to right, right to left, into oncoming traffic, stop short and on and on.
The other day Karen and I had to stay far behind this van that swerved into oncoming traffic, then almost hit and mailbox and then kept doing that for a couple of miles.
When we finally got to a light, I pulled up beside the van and glared in with what Karen calls my “mean look.” (Believe me, you don’t want to be in the other end of my mean look.0 What do my wondering eyes see? A MOTHER, looking at her cell phone, with two small kids in the backseat!
I just read this horrifying news story about how a 20 year admitted he was texting when he hit a church van, killing 12 people.
Right before writing this, I called my stepson, Zac, who is driving with friends to the beach for spring break, to tell him to make sure he puts his cell phone away.
It seems as if no one is ever actually present with anyone else because they are always texting, tweeting, facebooking, surfing, snap chatting, etc.
I’m on my damn phone too much but make it a point to leave it at home when I’m going out with my friends and family because I want to be present with them AND so I’m not tempted to look at it when driving.
The major point is not to text and drive and to remind your kids not to text and drive. I want you around to read my emails and buy my stuff for a long, long time. 🙂
The very minor business point, in the context of this, is to be present with your prospects. Don’t be thinking about the next thing you’re going to say. Really listen to what they’re saying. Do that and your closing percentage will go up – no question about it.
Kick butt, make mucho DEEnero!
