Give me a break: Times Square billboard to ask girl to prom

Good Lord, what is this world coming to?

I read this story about a high-school dude who did a “promposal’ by using a video on the T-Mobile billboard in Times Square. Apparently, daddy is friends with the C.E.O and made it happen

When I was in high school, we just asked a girl to go to prom. Today, it’s a whole production.

How much impact would it be for you be able to do a video advertisement in Times Square? Not much would be correct because although a lot of people would see it, the overwhelming majority of those people wouldn’t be your prospects. So, yes, advertising with that media would be dumb.

Dan Kennedy codified a long-held marketing truism with what he calls a “marketing triangle.” You need the right message, sent to the right market, via the right media.

If your marketing isn’t getting the results you want, it’s because one or more of the sides of the “triangle” is off kilter. It truly is that simple. Now fixing the problem isn’t necessarily easy.

The first place to look is to make sure your message isn’t falling on deaf ears. Meaning, are you confident that your marketing is reaching the right people?

Next, would be to look at is whether your message is resonating with your target market. The truth is a mediocre message that reaches the right target market is better than a stellar message that reaches an mediocre target market.

Last would be to look at the media you’re using. Are the majority of your prospects even seeing your marketing? Hey, if your target market is 65-year-old retired dudes, Instagram probably isn’t your best choice.

The kid at the beginning of our tale actually nailed it perfectly.

He had a market of one. He was 100% positive his “prospect” would see his message. And, presumably, is message was strong because she said “yes.” Overkill, yeah probably, but his cost per sale was zero.

Hey, maybe I’ll do a Facebook Live later today to ask Karen if she wants to go out for some sushi.

Kick butt, make mucho DEEnero!
