I don’t like cover bands.
Nope.
I’d rather see an up-and-coming band play their own music with a few covers mixed in.
Being the excellent husband that I am, I went to see a Queen cover band over the weekend because The Mrs. wanted to go.
Heck, I don’t even enjoy the original Queen’s music.
The band was professional and did a nice job pretending to be Queen; the crowd loved them.
But they were a copy of someone else instead of who they were.
I guess that’s okay for an evening of music on the beach, but it’s deadly when selling yourself.
Most business owners copy the marketing and sales material everyone in their industry uses.
Legendary marketer Dan Kennedy calls this behavior “marketing incest.”
If your sales materials, offers, and messages look the same as your competitors, what criteria do you think most prospects will use to make buying decisions?
Correct. Price.
The beauty of delivering a unique sales message uniquely, is it makes you stand out from everyone else.
This is mission-critical to your success in today’s “attention economy.”
