A science fiction fan, I’m not. I watched Star Wars and, well, fell asleep. Not my cup of tea.
There are apparently a lot of motivational guru types who love Star Wars and even quote wisdom from Yoda. (They do realize he isn’t real, right?)
One the famous yodaisms they use is: “Do or do not. There is no try.”
Rah! Rah! Let’s thump our chests and become unstoppable doers!
Here’s the thing my fine feathered friend:
There absolutely is try and trying is important. If you don’t try new things, new strategies and try things that others in your profession haven’t, where is the breakthrough going to come through?
Heck, I tried a lot of different ways to sell and most of them didn’t work but I developed a system that works like magic. Wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t try a bunch of stuff.
Now, there is a difference when you use the word “try” in a wimpy, defeated way. Some people don’t really try, they give it a half-hearted effort because they “know” it won’t work. That’s not what I’m talking about.
I’m talking about trying a lot of stuff, seeing what works for you and discarding the rest.
By the way, there are a lot of things you’ve tried, that you’re still doing, that’s not working with you. This is causing you a tremendous amount of stress and overwhelm. By eliminating those things, not only will you lower your stress, you’ll have more time to try new stuff.
