A Birthday Reflection

Today’s a special day—it’s my dad’s birthday.

As I write this, I can’t help but think about all the lessons he taught me over the years. My father taught me how to be a husband, a father, and a provider—not through lectures but by how he lives his life.

He showed up—every day. No excuses.

I watched him work tirelessly to care for us, putting food on the table and ensuring we had what we needed. But it wasn’t just about providing; it was the way he did it—with integrity, love, and a sense of humor.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’ve realized over the years that one of the most important life skills—whether you’re a parent, a business owner, or someone just trying to make things better for yourself and your family—is knowing how to sell.

I’m not talking about the pushy, high-pressure, “close or die” selling. I mean the ability to communicate, connect, and convey the value you bring to the table in a way that truly helps the other person.

My dad didn’t sell with words; he sold with actions. And whether he realized it or not, he taught me that selling is about serving. It’s about understanding the other person’s needs and showing them how you can help.

That’s why, if you’ve been hesitant to lean into learning how to sell, I encourage you to think of it differently. It’s not about being slick or manipulative. It’s about being the kind of person people trust to help them achieve what they want.

And let’s be real—there’s no better way to provide for your family or create the life you dream about than by mastering this skill.

So today, as I celebrate my dad and all the lessons he gave me, I want to pass this one along to you: If you want to make a difference—for your family, your clients, and yourself—make learning to sell a priority.
