My beloved Miami Dolphins are on a roll!

They started 1-4 and are now 9-5 with a possible playoff berth on the horizon. Best of all, they demolished a team I hate more than any other sports team – the New York “Jets.” “Jets,” “Jets!”

Fans like myself are beginning to have playoff fantasies but the team, to a player, has a  different focus – Winning the next game. They’ve had this mindset even when they were losing: “We just need to focus on winning the next game.”

Oftentime entrepreneurs either look back at their failures or successes or spend time in the future, dreaming about what will be.  Bear in mind that both of these are important activities, if done correctly.

We look to the past not to wallow in it but the learn from it. We look to the future to charter our journey but we can’t dwell in either.

The truth is all we really have is right now – today, this hour, this minute. It is in these moments that our victories are won or lost.

So as we look forward to a new year, let’s stay in the present and do all we can to make our businesses grow and have a greater impact on the world.
