What Taught Me About Control And Clients

During the recent hurricane, Kalia and I stayed with my Uncle Phil and Auntie Jan.

Now, Uncle Phil’s the kind of guy who doesn’t get rattled easily. As the storm raged outside, he leaned back in his chair and said, “I don’t worry about what I can’t control. I trust God. I focus on what you can control and let the rest go.”

And that got me thinking…

When it comes to converting leads into appointments, so many people worry about things they can’t control—whether the prospect’s too busy, whether they’re going to respond, whether they’re even interested anymore. But guess what? You can’t control any of that.

What you can control is how you follow up and keep yourself at the top of your mind. You have full control over how you present yourself, how often you reach out, and the value you offer.

Your action step? Take control of your follow-up process.

Instead of sitting around wondering if your prospects will magically reach out, make sure you’re consistently providing value and giving them a reason to come back to you.

Send a simple email like this: “Hey [Name], I know things get hectic, but I wanted to check and see if you still need help [solve their specific problem].”

By controlling what you can—your messaging, consistency, and value—you’ll start seeing more of those consultations roll in.

Uncle Phil was right: there’s no sense worrying about what’s outside your control. Focus on what you can do, and the rest will take care of itself.
