We’re having a pool screen cage built for our new home, which we hope to move into soon.
Kalia decided to do some research and discovered two things:
- Standard screws will eventually rust and need to be replaced, but there are upgraded stainless steel screws that will never rust.
- There are different levels of screens, including an “Ultra” version that is the best.
Our pool cage “salesman” never mentioned either of the two premium options.
Can you believe that?
Maybe he thought we would be upset because he tried to sell us the most expensive option. It beats me; we were incredulous because he didn’t offer it.
Of course, we upgraded and were happy to pay a few thousand dollars extra for a better product that, in the long run, would save us time and money.
Had my wife not researched, the company would have made less, and we would have ended up with an inferior product.
Two lessons:
One: There will always be some customers who want to buy the best and will pay for it. If you haven’t done so, figure out how to add a premium product or service to your offers.
Two: If you have a premium product or service, offer it! An alternate of choice close will often help you make more sales.
