10 Words You Can No Longer Use In 2023

Sky News reported, “Every year since 1976, Lake Superior State University has its compilation of choices that are to be banned for the entire incoming year.”

Here is the list of words and phrases:

  1. GOAT (Greatest Of All Time)
  2. Inflection point
  3. Gaslighting
  4. Quiet quitting
  5. Moving forward
  6. Amazing
  7. Absolutely
  8. Does that make sense?
  9. Irregardless
  10. It is what it is

I couldn’t be more embarrassed because I absolutely use some of those amazing words and phrases in my sales presentations. But, moving forward, I’ll continue using them because some help close sales. Does that make sense?

We might laugh at the absurdity of the list, but I assure you there are members of the “word police” who take such things very seriously because the list came from a University.

And that illustrates the power of authority. If Dave Dee came out with a list like that, few people would care, and no one would write an article about it. But when an authority figure or institution decrees something, it often carries more weight.

That’s why closing the sale becomes easier when YOU get endorsed by another business owner to their clients.

Referral marketing is one of the best ways to generate leads and get new clients, but you need to systematize it instead of waiting for it to occur by happenstance.

Even better than getting one-off referrals is to have a business owner endorse your services to their clients all at the same time. More powerful than that is to get in front of all of the endorser’s clients at the same time.

And that’s where joint venture webinars come into play.

Imagine having someone your prospects respect introduce you as the “pro from Dover,” then you do an educational presentation, and at the end, offer consultations to anyone whose interested. Do you think you might get some new clients? (As the late, great Jim Rohn would say, “Of course!”)
