Cool new device: The Hair Stretcher

Let me tell you a funny story with serious overtones.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s email, I went to get a haircut. Daniel, my stylist, told me the following story.

He said that back in the day, whenever he would have a new assistant fresh out of school, he would play this little trick on them. After he was done cutting a woman’s hair, he would whisper to his assistant that he made a mistake and cut it too short and tell her to go find the “hair stretcher.”

The assistant was perplexed because she had never heard of such a device but Daniel insisted that she find it, saying that he thought another stylist last had it and to ask him.

The other stylist, who was in on the gag, would say it didn’t have it but that another stylist might have And on and on it went, with the newbie assistant going on a wild goose chase to find the elusive “hair stretcher.”

Daniel added that the gag no longer worked with the new generation of assistants because after an assistant is told by one of the stylists that they don’t have the device, the search ends. They merely stop their search and give up after ONE rejection.

This story reminds me of the classic “A Message To Garcia” which you can find with a simple search.

The lessons are many, but the main one is that you need to do whatever it takes to reach the goals you set for yourself. Exhaust all possibilities before throwing in the towel. Preserve until.

Do that, and you’ll have a significant advantage over almost everyone else.

Have a fantastic rest of your Sunday.
