I love getting emails like this!

Over the weekend,  I got an email from second year mastermind member, Linda Sherfey. Linda is an attorney who generates a lot of her business from doing in person seminars and workshops. She wrote:

“I got 7 appointments after my afternoon seminar AND I have 3 people to call to make appointments from the evening meeting.

Happy! Happy!

I think what made the difference was your recommendation to just focus on getting an appointment for a Discovery Session (appointment) with me. The call to action was very clear. Thank you!”

I LOVE getting emails like this because the reason I’m in this business, aside from making “DEE-nero”, is to help entrepreneurs, like Linda.

The big takeaway for you is having a laser like focus on a single outcome that will help you to achieve what you want more quickly and more easily than if you are trying to accomplish too many things. This is true for big outcomes as well as mini outcomes.

For example, a mistake I see most people constantly make is trying to accomplish too many things with their lead generation marketing when their singular focus should be on generating a lead. The only purpose of a lead generation ad is to get someone to raise their hand and say,”I’m interested in what you have to offer.” It is not to sell your product or service. It is not to “brand” you or promote your image. It is to generate a lead. Period. When you try to make it do more than that, you dilute its’ effectiveness.

This point was further driven home today as I watched a DVD with Michael Masterson of Early To Rise fame, talk about the power of focusing on just ONE major goal.  He told a  story about how his life changed once he decided to focus on one thing and one thing only – becoming wealthy. This does not mean he did not accomplish other goals. It just meant that he made his singular focus on building wealth and as a result, became very, very wealthy in a short period of time.

So before you plan your next seminar, marketing piece, product or service ask yourself, what is the major outcome I want to achieve from doing this? And then focus your efforts on making sure that everything you do contributes to that one outcome.

Kick butt, make mucho “DEE-nero!”

BONUS LESSON

Another lesson from Linda’s email is that you need to have a clear “call to action.” You need to tell people specifically what you want them to do and give them a reason why they should do it now.

For example, if you are interested in getting into the information products business (or have an information products business and want to get to the next level) and haven’t ordered my NEW product, “Your GPS To Information Marketing Success” then you should go to http://www.davedee.com/gps and order now because the introductory half-price offer ends on Thursday.

See? A clear call to action. :)

As always Dave, great post. I am also a fan of Michael Masterson and have read his story many times.

Focusing on one goal is one of the secrets to success. With entrepreneurs it is even more critical because they wear so many hats and have so many distractions.

I created a program called the 30 Day Goal Blitz where I lead people through a strategic process of choosing their breakthrough goal and carrying out a massive action plan for 30 consecutive days.

The participants accomplish more in those 30 days than most people do all year. It’s the best way to create a surge of momentum that leads to breakthroughs in other areas as a result.

As with Michael Masterson and every other peak performer, you will find they applied hyper focus to their highest goal. Thank you for highlighting that trait.
