As we head into the Labor Day weekend, I am going to make this message short and sweet. So here are 9 quick marketing nuggets:

Sell to people who have money.

Selling a high priced service puts the odds of being a successful marketer in your favor.

Your offer is king. You must make a killer offer if you’re going to get results.

Your Central Selling Idea should be articulated in the headline of your letter.

The best format to sell with is with a well written sales letter, both online and offline.

Give away valuable information that your prospects want and need to generate leads. (What Dan Kennedy calls a “Lead Generation Magnet.”)

Mail your letter or promo package to leads immediately, as fast as possible.

Never try to sell more than one service at a time.

Don’t be creative. Model others and get rich.

Kick butt, make muchod DEE-nero!

Good news. My addiction to Melissa Etheridge is beginning to subside and I’ve actually started listening to music other than hers!

Bad news. I am now addicted to all of Chef Gordon Ramsey’s television shows – of which I think there are about million of them. “Kitchen Nightmares” is my favorite and can kind of be classified as educational. (Well, that’s at least what I tell myself.)

In this show, Ramsey goes into failing restaurants and turns them around. Typically he first works on improving the food and the cleanliness of the restaurant. He wants the product to be excellent. And then he works on the marketing of the business.

He is teaching the restaurant owners that the best investment they can make is the investment in their business. And I will take it a step further: if you use direct response marketing correctly, it will be your biggest wealth building tool.

Think about this for a minute…

If you invest in real estate, you might get a 20% -30% return if you are lucky. The stock market? 10% -15% is considered very good. (And today, it would be considered a miracle!)

A great direct response marketing piece can bring a return of 1000% or more within just a few days! That is not an exaggeration! Marketing is the easiest way to make more money with your business and build your personal fortune.

Read what I’m about to tell you very carefully and let it sink in:

Let’s say you are paying $500 a week for an advertisement and it brings you five new customers on a weekly basis. For the fun of it, let’s also say you make a $300 profit per customer. This means your profit is $1,000 (you invested $500 and brought in $1,500). Pretty good! Congratulations.

Now, let’s say you make a simple change to the headline of your ad and that simple change brings in three additional customers for a total of eight new customers per week. Now you have made $2,400 in gross sales. Let me ask you this, how much more did your advertisement cost you? If you answered “nothing,” you are correct. The ad costs the same whether it is good or bad. You can dramatically increase your profits with the same investment!

That is called leverage, mi amigo. And you can get that type of leverage in your business… guaranteed. All you need to do is keep testing and track your results. Do that and the DEE-nero will start rolling in.

Kick butt, make mucho DEE-nero!

Dave Dee

P.S. Tomorrow you will discover secret #2 to increasing your profits in a recession. It is a doozy!

PPS: Wanna have an entire email marketing department, that will convert prospects to clients and clients into raving fans, and without having to spend a fortune? You can! Check out my DEE-mail system which is on sale right now for less than $100 (normally $297) during this marketing test I’m conducting.
I am reading a very good book entitled, “Shut Up, Stop Whining & Get A Life” by Larry Winget, “The Pitbull of Personal Development.” (There are many good marketing lessons this sentence. Can you pick out all of them?)

On page 94, he quotes his son: “When you mess up…big deal. Just admit it, fix it and move on. Other than that, life is a party!”

That’s really good advice. So often, we beat ourselves up over mistakes we made in the past. Here’s the thing though:

We ALL make mistakes and we will all continue to make mistakes. Some will be big and some will be small, but in order for us to move on with our lives and our business, we must admit it, try and fix it and move forward.

Remember, “Keep on running don’t look back.”

So this weekend I am driving my son to a birthday party. I’m pretty happy because my car is back after my accident and it’s running better than ever. I’m going merrily on my way and then I glance at the speedometer and it reads – 103!!!!

Holy guacamole batman, was I really going that fast? I check again and sure enough it says 103! Then I notice that it’s not 103 MPH but rather it got switched to the Kilometers Per Hour!

Okay, now I feel like a real bonehead because I can’t do the conversion in my head nor can I find how to switch it back to the MPH reading. I’m slowing down and speeding up just to keep up with traffic speed. And then I find the button to push that changes the reading for me.

Aside from giving you a laugh at my expense, there are a couple simple marketing lessons in my little tale.

First, sometimes we are doing so much and working so hard and fast in our business that we don’t take the time to step back and really LOOK at our business and see of we’re actually traveling in the right direction.

Second, is that we need to be getting accurate numbers in our business in order to really know how we are doing. I was listening to a great interview today that John Carlton did with Jeff Paul and Jeff was saying that one of the main reasons people screw up their businesses is because they don’t keep and look at their numbers accurately.

So, plan some time this week to stop moving so fast in your business to step back and look to see if you are actually heading in the direction you want to go. And then, create a plan to be looking at your numbers on a regular basis.

Kick butt, make mucho DEE-nero!

~Dave Dee

P.S. Did you get the free gifts I’ve reserved for you? First is my book “How To Turn Your Passion Into Profits.” This book gives you step by step blueprint for creating (or
improving) your own information marketing business.

Plus I’m giving you an entire 17 week course that teaches you in DETAIL how to build or improve your information marketing business. This course sold in various forms from $324 to $995 but you get it at no charge.

Later this afternoon, you will be getting an email from me about accessing my book “How To Turn Your Passion Into Profits” for free – AND I’ve also added another humongous gift that you won’t believe. Seriously, you are going to think I’m the coolest guy on the planet.

Okay, today I promised to give you a behind the scenes view of a monthly marketing campaign I’m planning next week for you. I’m going to let you look over my shoulder as I design this.

I need to determine what type of promotion it is going to be. A new product release, a launch, a lead generation promotion, a sale? Okay, I’ve decided that it’s going to be a sale. My theme for the sale will be centered around “Labor Day.”

The next logical question is: what am I going to sell? Is it an older re-released product, a current product, an affiliate product? The answer is one of my current products. And the one I decided on is my “Email Marketing Department In A Box.” Why, because it is one of my finest products and it is something every self-employed service professional needs to have.

How can I make this an irresistible offer and make money at the same time? I’ve got a number of options here. The product price is $297 so I could slash $100.00 off it. That’s pretty good but not crazy good. Dropping the price by $200 bucks is obviously insanely good but it doesn’t leave much room for profit. (Not much room at all!) Got it: I will make the price $97 as an immediate digital download. My customers get instant access to everything and can start using it immediately and I make money. Win/Win.

How I am going to promote this? I could send an email sales letter with a link to my shopping cart. That has worked very well for me in the past. I could set up a separate web page with the offer. Or, I could just modify the current sales page I have up. That seems to be the easiest solution at this point.

How do I create urgency to get people to buy now? This is tricky because I want to remain in integrity and not give some false scarcity reason why people should buy now. Well, I can legitimately make this a marketing test to see if I make more of a profit with the digital downloadble version at $97 than I do with the print version at $297. The test would be for a limited time, say four or five days, then I can stop the promotion and analyze the results. If the lower price is more profitable I can keep the price at $97. If it’s not, I can raise the price back up. That is what I’m going to do.

HOW do I promote this sale? That’s easy. Since this is for my subscribers only, I will do it with a series of emails starting on Tuesday of next week and running until Friday.

What needs to be done for this to run flawlessly?- The web page needs to be changed to reflect the new pricing
- The new price needs to be set up in my shopping cart.
- An autoresponder sequence needs to be created for buyers
- The actual product needs to be turned into a digital product
- A download page needs to be created and the digital product uploaded to a server where it will be downloaded from.
- I need to write the series of emails promoting the sale.

I need to give this rough plan to my project manager, Jack for him to put into a comprehensive step by step plan with deadlines and assignments for who is doing what to accomplish this promotion.

So I literally just went through my entire thinking process here for you live. And there are many details I left out that Jack will fill in. But as you see, a lot of thinking goes into something as simple as running a four day sale on a product that is already created. When we do our “We Do It All For You” product launch program for private clients, it gets much more complicated and has much more detail.

The bottom line is that regardless of the size of the promotion, you need to strategically plan out what you are doing every step of the way. Most self-employed service professionals never give this much thought to their marketing promotions and then wonder why they don’t get the results they expected.

By the way, I just laid out an exact plan you can follow if you have an email list. Why not follow this plan and have your own Labor Day sale next week or even a post Labor Day sale. If you invest in my email marketing system next week, you’ll learn exactly how to write emails that sell so your next promotion is a doozy.

Have a great weekend!

Kick butt, make mucho “DEE-nero!”

Please leave your comments.

~Dave Dee

P.S., Don’t forget to be on the lookout for the email later this afternoon with your free book and second surprise, incredible gift. You won’t believe it!

Howdy…

Yesterday I talked about how you must be marketing consistently in order to keep your prospect pipeline full and build a real deal sustainable business. (If you missed it, here’s the link: http://davedee.com/blog2/?p=937)

Today, you’re going to learn about the two main types of marketing you’re going to be doing.

What’s cool about this is not only will it create cash flow surges for you (like I do for my “We Do It All For You” clients) but it will also keep a steady flow of leads coming your way.

Promotional marketing. This is marketing you do at certain times of the year and is focused around a specific event and has a specific theme. For example, you might have a Valentine’s Day promotion, a Thanksgiving promotion, or be a launching an existing product or service. On my marketing calendar I have mapped out when I am going to do a launch to accept applications for my “We Do It All For You Services”, my “Personal Consulting and Mastermind Program”, etc.

Ongoing monthly marketing. As the name suggests, this is marketing you are going to do every month, consistently and without fail.

Ongoing monthly marketing breaks down into two categories:

Lead generation: For example using Google Adwords, legitimate email marketing, offline marketing, etc to offer a “free report”, “free CD”, “free video” or some other type of “lead generation magnet” that will attract prospects interested in doing business with you.

Marketing to existing clients. This typically will include an email newsletter and a print newsletter.

Here is an important point:

It doesn’t matter what type of self-employed service professional you are. You could be a dentist, lawyer, financial adviser, consultant, coach or trainer – you need to be doing promotional marketing and ongoing monthly marketing exactly as I described it to you.

I will be explaining each of these elements in greater detail as we move along, but here’s is something simple you can do today to help you generate a quick cash flow surge.

Look at your calendar and select a date for a promotional marketing campaign. Again, this can be around a specific holiday or a product launch you want to do.

(The truth is that every single month there are “holidays” you can create a promotion around. See http://www.brownielocks.com/month2.html)

Tomorrow, I’m going to share with you exactly how to create the promotion by giving you an inside look at a promotion I’m creating for MY subscribers (You!) for next week so you will be able to model what I’m doing to create a promotion for your clients as well. Is that cool or what?

Your comments are always welcomed and appreciated.

~Dave Dee

P.S., Also tomorrow, I’m giving you a copy of my book “How To Turn Your Passion Into Profits” for free. Be on the lookout for that.

Well the good news is I went to half-price sushi night last night after missing it for a couple of weeks. The bad news is the plates of sushi keep getting stacked higher and higher. (And now the Chef and I have switched from buying each other sake to beer – and lots of it.) But after the past couple of weeks I’ve had, I think I deserve it!

Today I want to talk to you about the three main rules to business success – regardless of the business you’re in. And let’s just talk about that for a minute.

Everyone thinks their business is different and this kind of thinking holds them back from making incredible, rapid breakthroughs because they don’t think about how they can “step outside their box” and implement types of marketing that people outside their industry are using.

Here is a truth you’ll want to burn into your brain:

Marketing is marketing is marketing.

And although I split my business up into providing marketing and launch campaigns for information marketers and providing marketing and launch campaigns for service providers, the reality is it’s basically all the same thing! All the same principles apply.

My big “secret” is that regardless of who I am creating a marketing or product launch for, I use “information” such as free reports, teleseminars, video, etc. to do the selling for me. But that is another topic for another day.

Today, I promised you that I’d give you the three rules to your businesses success and so here they are:

1. You must be marketing on a consistent basis.

2. You must be marketing on a consistent basis.

3. You must be marketing on a consistent basis.

Simple, I know. But how many people are doing it? It’s certainly not what the Internet marketing gurus teach. Nope. Their formula is do a big product launch, collect the money (return about half of it because of refunds – another story for another day), spend the money, and then do another product launch. That is NOT the way to build a real deal, sustainable business.

You want to be marketing on a consistent basis and tomorrow, I’ll be talking you about the two main types of marketing you need to be doing.

Please post your comments here on my blog.

Kick butt, make much “DEE-nero!”
~Dave Dee

P.S., Don’t forget on Friday, you will be getting a copy of my book “How To Turn Your Passion Into Profits” for free. If you want to read what the book is about go to: http://www.astonishingbusiness.com/book (but don’t buy it there though because I’m gifting it to you on Friday!)

I was really moved (often to tears) by all of the beautiful comments submitted re: yesterday’s post about my relationship with Alexis. (If you did not get a chance to read it or the comments you can at http://davedee.com/blog2/?p=921)

My deepest thanks to everyone for your love and support – it means more to me than you’ll ever know.

Over the next few weeks, you will start seeing big changes on my website that reflect the change in my own personal business model. I’m moving away from being just a seller of marketing stuff to actually DOING marketing stuff for you or at the very least giving you hands-on help so you can do it yourself.

I’ll let you know about all of the different services and programs we’ll be providing to help you grow your business and get to the money fast as we move forward.

First though, I want to let you know about a gift you will be getting from me on Friday.

This gift is for people who are interested in the information marketing business. (Turning your knowledge, expertise, skills. gifts into products, coaching, etc.) It is a copy of my book “How To Turn Your Passion Into Profits.”

I sell this every day for $19.95 but I want to give it to you for free – along with an amazing bonus audio that comes when you buy the book. All I ask is that you actually read the book. Value it like you bought it.

You might be wondering why I am giving this book away – and what the “catch” is.

There is no “catch” — it all comes down to my new business model. I am going to provide you with the most valuable information I can, some of it for free (like the book) and some at VERY affordable prices, to help you make more money in your business and have the lifestyle you really want.

If, after you get this information, you want to create the marketing, products, etc. completely on your own, that’s great. If you want me to do it for you or at least get my personal assistance in getting it all done – that’s great as well.

The bottom line is I really want to help you at whatever level is appropriate for you.

So be on the lookout your first free gift on Friday.

Kick butt, make mucho DEE-nero!

Dave Dee

P.S., My biz is going to be divided into two areas, 1) People who want to be in the information marketing business 2) Business owners who want to use information to market their businesses through websites, email, blogs, etc. I’ll have some free gifts for you guys as well!

If you’ve been my subscriber for anytime, you know I’m very transparent about both my business and my personal life. And this post is as personal as I can possibly get.

Four years ago, I met Alexis Martin Neely at a Dan Kennedy seminar and she hired me as her private coach to help launch her information marketing business.

Within 8 weeks, she did her first teleseminar launch and sold $117,000 of her product. This is still the best business day of my life. She was screaming, crying and laughing as she watched the orders poured in. It was a transformation experience for her as well as me. Within three weeks had sold over $225,o00.

As our business relationship developed so did our personal relationship. And soon, we were both deeply in love. Before I knew it, I was flying across the country every other week to be with her in California.

Last year we formed a company, cleverly named Dave & Alexis. We did great work together and changed people’s lives.

But after three and a half years of being together and maintaining a long distance relationship, we have lovingly decided to not only end our business relationship but our romantic relationship as well. And although, I am deeply saddened, there is no animosity or anger, in fact quite the opposite. We simply want to live very different lives.

Alexis changed my life and my business in so many ways. On a personal level, she showed me how deeply, profoundly and passionately I could love someone. She helped me to open up and experience new things I never would have imagined.

From a business standpoint, Alexis showed that in order to provide superior service, I couldn’t do it on my own and that I needed a team. (And now I have the best team on the planet.) She helped me to understand my worth. Not from a place of ego but from a place of truth. She taught me that I needed to focus on my greatest gifts and unique abilities. By example she showed me what it meant to work hard to produce superior products and services for my customers. I could go on but I think you get the point.

Although Alexis and I will no longer have a business together, we will continue to do business together from time to time. Including a call on Wednesday that you should definitely register for. This is really a life-changing call and I encourage you to join us. The complete details can be found here:

Thank you, Alexis for being such an incredible part of my life. I love you.

David

P.S. I would very much appreciate your comments.

Today I had a full day consultation meeting planned with one of my mastermind members here in Atlanta.

I showed up to the meeting room on time and was psyched for a very productive day to work one-on-one with my client.

The time for our meeting came and he did not show up. I waited… thinking that maybe he was running a little bit behind. Then I called his office and got the shocking news that he had suddenly passed away.

As I write this to you I am in shock and although I didn’t know the man that well, deeply saddened and reminded of the fragility and preciousness of life. In the blink of an eye, it could be taken from you.

Today, give your children an extra hug and look deeply into their eyes and tell them how much you love them in a way that permeates their soul. Call your friends and family and let them know how much you mean to them. Take your significant other in your arms and breathe them in – being truly present with them.

Take a moment today to thank God, the universe, whatever this is for you, for the incredible gift you have been given – another day, another hour, another minute, another breath.

~Dave Dee

P.S., If you feel so compelled, please post your thoughts about the beauty and preciousness of life. I would love to hear what you have to say and I’m sure others would as well.
