A GREAT Band, Your Passion, Struggle & Success

For the past few weeks I’ve been listening incessantly to the band Mumford & Sons new album. (Yes, I still call it an “album.”) These guys are amazing with profoundly powerful, deep and moving songs.  Here is a video of their most popular song.

WARNING: This song contains explicit lyrics so if you are offended by “bad words” than this isn’t for you. I could have put up a video for the “sanitized” radio version of this song but that version, sans the “bad word”, weakens the song by removing it’s emotion and passion.

So what does this have to do with you? Everything -  on many levels.

In the quest to make money, have you lost your passion for what you do? There are a lot of business owners today who are tired, so very tired and because of many factors are struggling and no longer have the passion for the business they once had.

There are some business owners who never had passion for their business but simply started it because that was what they were supposed to do or because they thought that would make them the most money.

Now here is fact that they new age motivational gurus won’t tell you: If you’re running a business MONEY is important and can lead to greater happiness provided that you have a passion for the business in the first place. There is no question that if you don’t like your business, if you lack passion for it, then more money won’t cure that or make you happier – in fact, more money, more business can have the opposite effect.

But the people who say things like, “If you’re not happy making $100 in your business you won’t be happy making a million dollars” are just plain full of it. I can tell you when I was a struggling magician doing three shows a month I became a heck of a lot happier when I started averaging 25 shows a month and didn’t have to worry about money. I was passionate about being a magician when I was struggling but I certainly was not as happy as when I was successful.

You need to identify whether being more successful in your current business would make you happier.

If your answer is “yes”, then you still have passion for what you’re doing and you need to not only reignite that passion but work on a plan so you can have the breakthrough you need.  I can certainly help you with that. If you’re answer is “no”, that more money and greater success in your current business would NOT make you happier, then it is time for you to start a business doing something that you love to do. Despite what you’ve been told, you can get rich doing what you love.  This Thursday, I’m doing a webcast where I am going to lead you step-by-step for making that happen. This webcast is for my customers and subscribers only, so if you are reading this and are not on my email list, fill out the simple form on this page, and you’ll automatically get the free webcast details when I release them.

Happiness in your business is about passion and money. And you can have both.

Kick butt, make mucho “DEE-nero!”

P.S. I would love to hear your thoughts on this…even if they conflict with mine. Comment and let me know what YOU think.

PPS: Here is a version of my favorite Mumford and Sons tune, “A White Blank Page”. If you don’t feel the passion from this song. Check your pulse.

I usually like being a contrarian, but I think I agree.

I’ll go a bit further though: For years I’ve been following the dream of the business community, start a business, make a lot of money and buy cool stuff for yourself, maybe give some of your money to the poor.

Then it got old. Not uncomfortable, I just didn’t feel making more money for myself would make me any happier long-term.

I switched my priorities, now when I’m not in my business, I write books and articles about economic issues and save most of my money to start a foundation to develop a new type of economic theory, as I’m more and more dissatisfied with ours (which is, mind you, more or less from the 18th century).

I’m certain that if I continue working on my business, my money will help explore these ideas further, and they my work will benefit all of humanity, not just myself.

I consider that to be much more inspiring than the typical “luxurious lifestyle” goals. That doesn’t mean I live in complete frugality, just that I’d rather be remembered for contributing to the progress of humanity than for owning 5 cars.

  2. That makes a lot of sense. If you don’t have passion for what you do, it will quickly get boring.

It amazes me how music carrys so much more insight and passion than words alone. The point of course is to have your passion reach people, make a larger impact. Thanks for you help in doing that.

I love the Mumford. I love the lyric: Weep for yourself, you will never be what was in your heart. You are not as brave as you were at the start.

I know this to be true for me when I think of my potential and the pain of not living up to how I think I could contribute to life while I am here. It is often easier to be brave to the idea of something and sometimes hard to be in the messy middle of things. Thanks for posting my boys. By the way, thank you for our coaching session today. It was amazing and so helpful! I really appreciated it.

I am a Cancer Recovery Coach and am passionate about helping women cancer survivors. Many coaches told me this is not a profitable target market, because these women don’t congregate (so how do you market to them) and they are not “seekers”.
My question is whether there are target markets where passion is not enough to make money?

One of my Mantrasis: “When you lose your love for what you do or have then it is time to move on.” If you do not want to move or cannot move then you just have to rekindle love in that thing or job or person – Plain simple without LOVE and PASSION there will only be frustration

I do agree with all of the ideas you have presented in your post. They are really convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are too short for beginners. Could you please extend them a little from next time? Thanks for the post

I’ve been surfing online more than 3 hours today, but I by no means discovered any interesting article like yours. It’s lovely price enough for me. In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made just right content as you probably did, the net might be a lot more helpful than ever before.
