Anatomy Of A Successful Product Launch – Part 1

I’m freezing my butt off here in Atlanta. How can that be? It’s March! Must be that global warming thing. :)

Before we get into lesson #1 of “Anatomy Of A Successful Product Launch,” I first want to say that I am overwhelmed by the number of requests I’ve been getting from people who want to apply for a free strategy session. Please remember that this is an application process and not everyone who applies will get a strategy session.

Okay, let’s get rocking and rolling with lesson #1…

A big mistake people make is working on creating the perfect product before working on the strategy for launching their product. I see this time and time again when clients come for a full day strategic consultation. They tell me that they’ve been working on a product, or worse, more than one product, that it’s “almost ready” and that when it is, they’ll be ready to start thinking about marketing the product.

(Buzzer sound) Wrong Answer!

That is the backasswards approach to doing this thing.

Yes, you need to have a product in mind that you want to sell, but then you must put all your efforts into creating a strategic launch plan.

If you wait until you create the “perfect product” you will never get around to selling it.

You want to sell it and get da DEE-nero in da bank first. Believe me, you’ll be motivated to finish up the product and get it shipped.

So the first secret is: Marketing first. Product second.
